Original WWII Battle Dress Tunic of a Captain, 2nd Battalion Cameronians, 5th (Yorkshire) Infantry Division. This battle dress tunic features all original, wartime-applied insignia. The collar has been tailored, a notable detail is the tailored collar, stitched using the same thread and technique as the insignia applied to the tunic, which is very nice. The maker’s label is intact, dated 1942, and marked as a size 6.

France and Belgium (1940):
The 2nd Battalion fought in the early stages of WWII during the Battle of France, where the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) faced overwhelming German advances.
Participated in the Dunkirk evacuation (Operation Dynamo), a pivotal moment in the early war effort.

Sicily and Italy (1943-1944):
Following reorganization and retraining, the battalion was deployed in the Mediterranean theater.
Played a vital role in the Sicily campaign (Operation Husky) and the subsequent advance through Italy, including the arduous Gustav Line battles and the advance towards Rome.

North-West Europe (1944-1945):
After Italy, the 5th Division was reassigned to the European theater to support the liberation of Western Europe.
The Cameronians were involved in the crossing of the Rhine and operations in Germany leading to the end of the war.
