1.800,00

Original WWII Royal Canadian Dragoons (RCD) battle dress jacket. The badges are all original wartime applied. Consisting of a pair of English made RCD shoulder titles, canvas CANADA titles, melton 1st Corps patches, a nice 8th Army patch on the shoulder board (soldiers/troopers wore this to show they served under British command in Italy). The jacket is manufactured  by S&G Clothing Co. Ltd and dated 1944 in size 11. It can be challenging to take good photos of the insignia, especially when it comes to red emblems. Shows some moth damage, just some small damages.

A rare Royal Canadian Dragoons battle dress jacket.

Royal Canadian Dragoons

1943: Landing in Italy
The Royal Canadian Dragoons were deployed to Italy as part of the 1st Canadian Infantry Division during the Second World War. They served as a reconnaissance regiment, tasked with gathering intelligence, conducting patrols, and providing forward observation. Their armored cars and light vehicles allowed them to operate effectively in the rugged and varied terrain of Italy.

Italian Campaign
The Dragoons played a critical role in several major battles of the Italian Campaign, including the advance through Sicily and the fight up the Italian mainland. They were instrumental in providing reconnaissance during the crossing of the Moro River and the brutal battles at Ortona in late 1943.

In 1944, they continued their efforts during the push through the Liri Valley and the assault on the Hitler Line, where their work scouting enemy positions and probing defenses helped clear the way for Canadian and Allied advances. Their reconnaissance skills were vital for navigating the mountainous terrain and dealing with heavily defended German positions.

1945: Transfer to Northwest Europe
In early 1945, after the conclusion of the Italian Campaign, the Royal Canadian Dragoons were redeployed to Northwest Europe alongside other Canadian units. They joined the Canadian forces fighting in the Netherlands and Germany, taking part in the final stages of the war. Their duties included reconnaissance and pursuit of retreating German forces as the Allies advanced into enemy territory.

End of the War
By May 1945, the Dragoons had contributed significantly to the liberation of the Netherlands and the defeat of Germany. Their adaptability and effectiveness in reconnaissance played a key role in the success of Canadian forces throughout the campaigns in Italy and Northwest Europe.

Legacy
The Royal Canadian Dragoons distinguished themselves as a highly skilled and versatile reconnaissance regiment. Their service during 1943–1945 is remembered as a vital contribution to the Allied victory in Europe.
