Perth Regiment Battle Dress Jacket – I.O.D.E. Shoulder Titles
Original WWII Perth Regiment battle-dress jacket. An excellent example of an original battle dress jacket to the Perth Regiment. This jacket features a rare pair of I.O.D.E.-made embroidered shoulder titles. It shows normal signs of wear consistent with age and service use. The jacket is maker-marked S. Stall & Son Ltd., Winnipeg, and dated 1944, size 11. All insignia are original and period-applied, including: A pair of I.O.D.E.-made embroidered Perth Regiment shoulder titles, printed 5th Canadian Armoured Division formation patches, two years’ service chevron and medal ribbon.
The Perth Regiment I.O.D.E. made shoulder titles. The government had done some earlier testing with the printed titles to ascertain their longevity. It was found that the printed variety tended to fade over time and was more likely to curl at the edges with wear. Cloth embroidered titles tended to be more popular with the men and these would often be seen on their best or walking out uniforms. One of the first of these titles to make its way overseas was courtesy of the Stratford chapter of the IODE (Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire). As a sign of supporting their regiment overseas, they raised money to have shoulder flashes made and sent to the unit.
