Type 3 MkII Clandestine Transceiver (B2) in Drop Containers

Original WWII British Type 3 MkII Clandestine Transceiver (B2) in Drop Containers. The official designation is Type 3 – MkII, but it is also known as Type B MkII, BII, or simply B2, this British WWII portable clandestine transceiver, also known as a “spy radio set” was developed in 1942 by (then) Captain John Brown at SOE Station IX, and manufactured by the Radio Communication Department of the SOE at Stonebridge Park. The set was issued to agents, resistance groups, and special forces operating in occupied territories. The B2 was produced in two versions, in a leather suitcase, and metal containers, those were dropped by parachute, the B2 in waterproof drop containers were more practical design for resistance groups operating in the field, they often had to be stored in moist places, such as a forest or a farm. In a suitcase was not the most appropriate packaging. The complete radio set consists of three main units: a receiver (RX), transmitter (TX), and power supply unit (PSU), along with a box containing spares and accessories. When in use, the lid of the spares box served as a surface for operating the Morse key. The Type 3 Mk.II (B2) was remarkably compact for its time, delivering an HF output of 20 watts. See pictures for more information. A very nice original set!
