Canadian Parachute Corps – Plastic economy cap badge

750,00

Original WWII Canadian Parachute Corps plastic economy cap badge. These economy badges were produced during the war due to material restrictions and were worn by members of the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion. A rare badge! This example is a genuine wartime badge, identified by the distinctive circular moulding impressions visible on the reverse, which are characteristic of original plastic economy cap badges.

The 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion was an airborne infantry battalion of the Canadian Army, formed in July 1942. It served in Northwest Europe, landing in Normandy during Operation Tonga in support of the D-Day landings on 6 June 1944, and later took part in Operation Varsity, the airborne assault crossing of the River Rhine in March 1945. Following the end of hostilities in Europe, the battalion returned to Canada and was disbanded on 30 September 1945.
