Set of twelve ‘English Spoken’ interpreter pins (Dutch civilian issue, Canadian Army)
Original WWII Set of twelve ‘English Spoken’ interpreter pins, issued in the Netherlands during the liberation period for Dutch civilians who could speak English. Each pin features the Canadian maple leaf and the 1st Canadian Army background, with the text ‘English Spoken’. These badges were worn to identify English-speaking Dutch citizens who could assist Allied troops, especially Canadian soldiers. All 12 pins are still mounted on the original cardboard display board, marked with the wartime retail price of ƒ2.50 and the Dutch slogan:
“Iedere Engelschsprekende draagt het English-Spoken speldje, U toch ook?” (“Every English-speaking person wears the English-Spoken pin — you do too, don’t you?”)
A rare well-preserved and complete set.
