Dieppe Raid (1942)
The SSR’s first major combat was during the Dieppe Raid on August 19, 1942, an attempt to test German defenses. The SSR landed at Pourville but, after initial success, was pinned down by heavy fire. Of the 553 men who landed, only 142 returned, with many killed or captured.

Normandy and Northwest Europe (1944-1945)
After Dieppe, the SSR trained and landed at Juno Beach in July 1944, fighting in key battles like the Falaise Gap. They advanced through Belgium and the Netherlands, aiding in the Battle of the Scheldt to open Antwerp’s port.

End of the War
By May 1945, the SSR had fought in some of the toughest campaigns, earning battle honors for Dieppe, Falaise, and the Scheldt.
