Queen’s Own Rifles – Field Service Cap
Original WWII Queen’s Own Rifles (QOR) Field Service Cap. A hard to find QOR Field Service Cap. The cap has its makers label present ‘Tip Top Tailors’ from Toronto. In used condition, interior shows minor damages. Comes with its QOR cap badge. The Field Service Cap (sometimes called a ‘wedge cap’ by collectors) was officially introduced into the Canadian Army in 1939, when the new Battle Dress uniform was introduced. The Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada had their own pattern of FS Cap that they wore as a traditional form of headdress also. During WW II, after some amount of deliberations, it was decided to permit the private purchase and wear of field service caps in distinctive regimental and corps colours. These caps were to be of authorized colour patterns, and worn only when off duty, such as when walking out. The caps were eventually produced in a dizzying array of colours, and their use seems not to have extended far beyond the Second World War.
