The Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa landed on Juno Beach on D-Day (June 6, 1944), they faced heavy resistance but secured their objectives. They fought in the Battle of Normandy, the liberation of France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. In 1945, they helped liberate Dutch towns and participated in the Battle of the Rhineland, advancing into Germany.
