1942 Dated Canadian Anti-Gas Cape

Original WWII Canadian ‘Anti-Gas’ Cape. A scarce Canadian-made Anti-Gas Cape, manufactured by TOWER and dated 1942. This pattern was issued throughout the Second World War to Canadian troops and is now rarely encountered in such supple condition. Constructed from green linseed oil–impregnated cotton with a brown disruptive camouflage pattern, it fastens at the front with brass press studs and includes a front pocket for the anti-gas ointment tin. The rear features the distinctive “hump” section designed to fit over the pack, along with khaki cotton neck ties for securing or rolling the cape. The cape remains supple, retaining bright colours. A few  damages and repairs are present, including two internal patches and a field repair on the back, leading to it being marked for training use only. The cap shows traces of usage! The anti-gas cape was usually rolled up and carried on the back of the web belt or stored in the small pack. These capes were popular among the troops during wet weather.

A superb and well-preserved example of this rare and highly sought-after piece of Canadian WWII equipment.
