48th Highlanders of Canada – Battle Dress Jacket and Tam
Original WWII 48th Highlanders of Canada Battle Dress jacket and Tam O’ Shanter. An original, period-badged example featuring printed “48th Highlanders of Canada” shoulder titles and printed 1st Canadian Infantry Division formation patches. The battle dress jacket remains in good overall used condition. It is maker-marked and dated 1943, size 9. The Tam O’Shanter is a particularly fine example, British-made, with faded markings. still visible are the following markings; Size 7 1/8, and a WD stamp with the letter M indicating 1944. The cap badge is original to the tam. A notable detail is the printed red patch, cut from a divisional patch, placed behind the cap badge. The tam also retains the correct red toorie for the 48th Highlanders of Canada. The jacket and tam were found together and are therefore offered as a matched set. For detail-oriented collectors, a nice detail; the shoulder titles are different, which is commonly encountered on wartime-used jackets. One example shows a coarser weave. I also took photos of the insignia without artificial light.
A desirable grouping from a distinguished Canadian regiment from Toronto.
