8th RECCE  Cap Badge & Armoured Beret 1943

This is an original WW2 Canadian armoured beret with a scarce 8th RECCE  (14th Canadian Hussars) cap badge. The black coloured beret, as intended for Armoured vehicle personnel, is manufactured by ‘Dorothea Hats Ltd of Toronto’ and dated 1943, C broad arrow stamped. It is in good worn condition. This beret is finished with rayon material instead of leather, this is factory done and not seen very often! The beret comes with an original 8th Reconnaissance Regiment (14th Canadian Hussars) cap badge. This badge appears to be made of white metal with a brass overlay scrolling upon which is written VIII RECCE on the world overlay design. Backside of the rayon is a bit loose and a small repair on side which is barely visible.

A very desirable early 1943 dated beret and cap badge!

The 8th RECCE  (14th Canadian Hussars) was a reconnaissance regiment that was part of the 2nd Canadian Infantry Division. Its primary mission was to conduct reconnaissance, map the strength of enemy positions and reconnoitre the condition of bridges, roads and area of operations. They were lightly armed and could attack weak enemy positions. Larger enemy positions were passed to other infantry or artillery units to attack. Small armored vehicles such as the Humber Armored Car were often used.
