Canadian High Top Boots ‘D-Day Boots’ – Dated 1943
Original pair of WWII Canadian High Top Boots, known among collectors as “D-Day boots.” These boots were first made in 1942 and apparently only produced in 1942 and 1943, we have never seen any later-dated High Top Boots. Their first known combat use was in May 1943, when Canadian troops assisted the US 10th Mountain Division in repelling the Japanese attempt to invade the Aleutian Islands. Some elements of the 1st Canadian Infantry Division also wore them while fighting in Italy. These boots became famous for being issued in large quantities to the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division for the D-Day landings in June 1944, which led to their nickname: “Invasion boots” or “3rd Division boots.”
The boots are in field-worn condition, showing clear signs of use. There is a field repair on the back side. The soles shows some damage, and the middle part of the soles is slightly loose (this can be repaired if the buyer wishes). No hobnails or horseshoes are present. The leather remains supple and the boots still have their original laces. The two closing straps were period-shortened, most likely because the last hole was not in use. The lower stitching is loose (see photos for details). The boots are marked inside, size 8. The boots are dated 1943. A nice pair in used condition.
An extremely rare pair of Canadian D-Day boots that seldom come onto the market.
