Grouping XII Manitoba Dragoons – Trooper TOWLE / Lieutenant TAYLOR
Original WWII Canadian grouping from the XII Manitoba Dragoons ’18th Armoured Car Regiment,’ originally belonging to Trooper D. Towle, service number A-116316. This grouping holds exceptional historical significance, as the reverse side of Towle’s kitbag bears the name of Troop Leader Lieutenant Tommy Edmund Taylor (photo attached), who was tragically killed in action in France on August 23, 1944. Lieutenant Taylor is honored at the Bretteville-sur-Laize Canadian War Cemetery, grave reference XXI. C. 7. It appears that Trooper Towle was reissued this kitbag, adding his own details to the opposite side.
Included in the grouping are Towle’s kitbag, Soldier’s Service Book, black web belt, web anklets, and news clippings reporting the loss of Towle’s brother, also killed in action.
This rare and poignant collection would make a meaningful addition to a dedicated collection or museum display, preserving the stories of two soldiers for future generations.
