Original WWI Canadian ‘Military Medal’ Grouping – Pte. Anthony Proctor, Toronto. An excellent First World War Canadian paperwork grouping to Private Anthony Proctor, a Toronto soldier awarded the Military Medal for bravery in the field, personally presented by H.R.H. the Prince of Wales on August 27, 1919. Born in England on October 9, 1885, Proctor attested on August 9, 1915, in Toronto with service number 171827. He enlisted with the 83rd Battalion, Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada, mobilized August 4, 1915. He trained at Niagara Camp (Aug 19–Oct 30, 1915) and Riverdale Barracks, Toronto (Nov 5, 1915–Apr 25, 1916), then embarked from Halifax aboard the S.S. Olympia on April 28, 1916, disembarking in Liverpool on May 6, 1916. After training at West Sandling, England, he was transferred to the 12th Battalion on July 7, 1916, and later served with the 75th Battalion in France. The 75th Battalion, drawn from Southern Ontario, participated in major engagements including The Somme, Ancre Heights, Arras, Vimy Ridge, Hill 70, Ypres, Passchendaele, Amiens, Scarpe, Drocourt–Quéant, Hindenburg Line, Canal du Nord, Valenciennes, and Sambre.
